Shed old patterns

We have read the “Stained Glass and Starbucks” articles in the Sept. 29 issue several times because it is so pertinent to the present situation our local church, Buena Vista Baptist Church in Vista, Calif.

We have been members there for two years (former members of First Baptist Church in Lawrenceville) and realize that it is dwindling as it is graying and clinging to old patterns.

Right now we are between pastors, the last one having retired in the spring after many years of service – and our interim pastor resigned last week! There are several ordained retired preachers among the members who will fill the pulpit until the Pastor Search Committee finishes its work and a new pastor is in place.

However, there are several new teams at work in such fields as evangelism and discipleship working to bring about needed changes.

We recently completed an in-depth survey that was conducted by the California State Baptist Convention’s Church Consultation Office to help us find ways to reach the unsaved and unchurched in the community.

As a member of the Evangelism Team I feel the urgent need to share your article with them in our next business session. Thank you very much for such a timely series of articles. Please pray for our church as we seek His leadership.
