Indeed, “Baptist” is a wonderful name! (Index editorial, Oct. 13). Its heritage is a proud and bold one. Why, then, are some Baptist churches removing the word “Baptist” from their signs? I am bothered by this. My own church, 125-year-old New Hope Baptist Church, has removed the word, without permission of the membership I might add. I personally would not walk into a church that did not declare its doctrine on its front sign. So, why this shameful trend?
