Takes issue with CBF presenter's comments

Me thinks John Killinger (“CBF presenter questions Christ’s diety,” July 3, Index) is more interested in selling his books than in obedience to the Christ, whose divine status he puts in serious doubt.

Many in today’s society are seeking “self-fulfillment” – whatever that is. But does one find it by drawing on “useful tidbits from an eclectic variety of faith traditions”?

What does all that mean?

People like Killinger have been around forever, it seems, and for lack of a better word I call them “humanists.” He knows a better way than through Jesus Christ. All you have to do is gather these little tidbits from all these faith traditions, do not spend much, if any, time in the Gospel of John because John dwells too much on the divinity of Jesus Christ, as the God/Man; now that you have done that, proceed to spend more time in the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, and Luke, where you will learn (?) that our Lord and Savior did not see Himself as His Father’s sacrificial lamb, until his actual crucifixion!

I am a fundamentalist, so doctrine is a driving force for me. Now, Mr. Killinger comes along and says “Doctrine is a thing of the past religiously.” At this point, I need to toss my Bible, put the four Gospels aside, and accept as fact that “Daniel fibbed a lot.” That’s true because Mr. Killinger and many of the scholars he questioned said so.

Life after death? The pastors Killinger quizzed said they are not overly concerned about it – they don’t think in terms of Heaven and Hell. They don’t disbelieve, they just don’t think about it. Clear enough for you?

The part of the excellent article by Mr. Roach that I most enjoyed was the “foot in mouth” disclaimer by the CBF. If these “workshops” do not reflect the views of the CBF, why in the world was he invited?

If I may take a little poetic license from that great American statesman Patrick Henry – I know not what course others may take, but, as for me, give me my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, God’s innerant Word, The Holy Bible, the Book of Daniel, and The Gospel of John. And I wish you God Speed in your quest for ‘Self-fulfillment.”
