John L. Ashby, 82, of Tucker, died June 30.

Born in Arizona, Ashby grew up in and spent most of his life in Kentucky, pastoring churches there and in Tennessee and Georgia. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII and was a member of Mountain Park First Baptist Church in Stone Mountain.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Jean Ashby of Tucker, son Ken Ashby of New York, daughter Cindy Ashby of Atlanta, brother Verco Ashby of Evansville, Ind., five grandchildren, and a great granddaughter.

 

Paul Samuel Moody, 83, of Snellville, died June 28.

A native of Atlanta, Moody served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He graduated from Mercer University in 1950 and pastored churches in Forsyth. After graduating from Southern Seminary, he served at Ballground Baptist Church and Mountain View Baptist Church.

He was appointed to The Baptist Foreign Mission Board In Thailand in 1959, returned to the States due to his wife’s medical condition in 1973, and was called to Tucker First Baptist Church as associate pastor and minister of youth, where he retired in 1990. During his ministry he also served as chaplain at Georgia Baptist Hospital.

In retirement, Moody did pulpit supply and nursing home ministry. He is survived by his wife, Virginia Ashe Moody; daughters Joyce Ann Micheletti of Norcross, Nancy Eileen Moody of Asheville, N.C., Linda Kay Ernest of Norcross, Paula Sue Moody of Snellville, and Deborah Jean Kristiansen of St. Augustine, Fla.; and one grandson.
