Gainesville church celebrating 125 years, First Roswell has a new pastor in latest People and Places

On Nov. 1 John S. Gibbs, Jr., resigned as pastor of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Ocilla after 21 years of service. Other pastorates in his ministry include Marie Baptist in Dublin, Callie Garbutt Baptist in Fitzgerald, and Zion Baptist in Tifton. He is available to supply preach and can be contacted at josigi@hotmail.com.

Kevin Head Kevin Head

On Jan. 27 First Baptist Church in Roswell welcomed Kevin Head as its new senior pastor. He will officially begin March 1. Head has been with the church since 2012 as part-time minister to young families, and was selected to be interim pastor in November 2014 after the retirement of Ronald Bradley. Head is a graduate of Southern Seminary in Louisville, KY, where he earned a Doctor of Philosophy majoring in Preaching and a minor in Pastoral Care and New Testament. He and his wife, Amy, have two children: Jenna, a freshman at Mercer University, and Josh, a junior at Pope High School in Marietta.

Central Baptist Church in Gainesville will have its 125th anniversary celebration this Sunday, Jan. 31. Special events throughout the day will commemorate the event with local dignitaries in attendance. The message will be brought by former minister of youth and music David McLendon and Don Elrod, former associate pastor, will lead in music. Earl Pirkle is pastor.
