Obituary: Mildred Skipper Heyser, longtime writer for The Christian Index and SBC Sunday School Board

Mildred Skipper Heyser, 95 years old, passed away into heaven peacefully Sunday, January 21st in her Birmingham home. She took her last breath while in the arms of her daughter.

Mrs. Heyser was born in Ashford, Ala. She later moved to Atlanta, Ga., where she met her husband, George. Mildred earned a B.A. from USNY. She served on faculty at Georgia Institute of Technology for 19 years in contract administration. Their family attended church at Second-Ponce de Leon Baptist church for over 30 years. Later, she and George attended Crabapple Baptist church in Alpharetta. She wrote for the Adult Southern Baptist Sunday school curriculum, as well as the Christian Index publication. She taught Sunday school frequently as well as English as a second language classes. She and George served as Sunday school directors and on the baptism committee throughout the years. They also enjoyed traveling and square dancing with the Peachtree Squares in Buckhead. In 2008 they moved to Birmingham, Al and attended Hunter Street Baptist Church.

Mrs. Heyser is preceded in death by her husband, George Heyser, sisters Brunice Brannon, and Mary Best. She is survived by her son, Bill, his wife, Kristen, and Suzy Johnson and her husband, Todd; her grandchildren, Aubrey Lewis, her husband, Wolf, Hayley Heyser, Jordan Blanton, and Jamee Blanton; Sarah Morgan Johnson, Todd Johnson Jr, Anna Layne Johnson, Mary Scott Johnson; her nephews Charles Brannon and his wife , Sallie, Glenn Brannon and his wife Sharon, niece Janice Brannon deceased.

A visitation for Mrs. Heyser will be held at Hunter Street Baptist Church on Thursday, January 25, 2024 beginning at 9:00 AM with the funeral service following at 10:00 AM.
