Not only does God know our sitting down and rising up, He also understands our thoughts afar off (Psalm 139:2), whether they are good, wicked, fearful, the angry, or thoughts of compassion and kindness – He knows them all.
This can, of course, be both comforting or convicting, based upon the way we think. Our daughter, Anna, was born with a bilateral cleft lip and palate. Many times, troubling and anxious thoughts have entered my mind as I contemplated her life and the surgeries she had to face. Time and time again, without a word spoken, the Holy Spirit would bring one verse after another of Scripture to my mind and garrison my heart with His peace while assuring my mind with His Word.
He knows every insecurity, every care and concern. And He wants to assure us of His presence with us and never-ending love for us. What a wonderful friend!
