Ben Hatfield, longtime pastor of First Baptist Church Alpharetta, died April 9. He was 90 years old.

A native of Gainesville, Hatfield attended Clarke Memorial College, Mississippi College, and New Orleans Seminary. He was ordained into the ministry at Central Baptist Church in Gainesville on Dec. 17, 1943 and served pastorates in Georgia, Mississippi, and Louisiana for more than 60 years.

In denominational service, he was moderator of Roswell Baptist Association on two separate occasions, vice president for the Georgia Baptist Convention, and on the GBC Executive and Administration committees. In addition, he was a trustee for Truett-McConnell College and the International Mission Board. He led First Alpharetta for 26 years.

In retirement, he and his wife, Ginger, served 18 interim pastorates including several English language congregations around the world.

He is survived by a son, Robert Benjamin Hatfield, two grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
