Breaking free

Today’s Scripture: Romans 7:25
Have you ever had a bad habit that you had a hard time stopping? Biting your nails, eating unhealthily, using bad grammar – these things plague us, and they can be hard to quit. I once heard someone say that bad habits are like a comfortable bed – they are easy to get into and hard to get out of.
For many of us, if there was a simple remedy to break free of our bad habits, we would do it. Unfortunately, quitting a bad habit is much easier said than done.
Spiritually speaking, we have some bad habits, too. We find ourselves not doing things that are right, and instead, we find ourselves doing things that we know are wrong.
Paul knew about this struggle. In Romans 7, he highlights the inner struggle that every Christian faces on a daily basis. How are we supposed to gain victory over our sin?
The answer lies in Romans 7:24-25. Paul said, “Wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord!”
We may still live in our fleshly bodies, and we may still experience the frustration of sin, but every Christian can find freedom in Christ. Thanks be to him!
Today’s Prayer: Father, thank you for giving me victory over sin. Empower me by your Spirit to live a life that brings you glory in every way.
