MOUNT VERNON — Visitors to the Brewton-Parker College campus may notice a new building, Baron Ridge Building C. These visitors would not be able to see the way that God worked to make the 24-bed male dorm – the first dorm built in 20 years – a reality.
Members of the Brewton-Parker family and community leaders gathered for the ribbon cutting ceremony Aug. 9 to celebrate God’s Providence from the earliest stages of the project. Fundraising for campus improvements and other needs started in April 2016. One year later, volunteers broke ground for the new dorm.
The project was completed in 11 weeks due to the commitment of contractors, community support, and a mission team arranged through the Georgia Baptist Mission Board. The structure was finished under budget due to volunteer support and material donations.
Only four-year SACSCOC accredited Christian college in south Georgia
“We are the only four-year SACSCOC accredited Christian college in south Georgia, and I believe the good people of south Georgia need, want, and will support a Christian college,” said President Steven Echols. “God has brought together a great group of people who believe in BPC’s mission, and it is God who will see us through.
“We have to continue in the right direction. That is our commitment today.”
The administrator noted that students will build friendships and do homework under the new structure’s roof. But most importantly, he added, was that “they will be able to meet with God through prayer and Bible study as their individual faith develops. Because of this dorm, Brewton-Parker College is better able to fulfill its mission to see student lives transformed academically and spiritually for the glory of God.”
Executive Vice President Ray Sullivan and Vice President of Athletics and Student Development Daniel Prevett offered prayers of blessing for the new residents.
Next year Brewton-Parker will enter the next phase of its Rise and Shine Capital Campaign with plans for the construction of another residential hall, Baron Ridge Building D.
Brewton-Parker College is the only accredited four-year Christian college south of Macon and north of Jacksonville, FL. The mission of the Georgia Baptist-affiliated college, is to develop the whole student through the application of biblically-centered truth to a liberal arts curriculum in a community of shared Christian values.
