Student Minister (With an emphasis on youth - Grades 6-12)

Southwest Baptist Church in Bainbridge, GA is seeking a Student Minister (with an emphasis on grades 6-12).

Job Description

  • Accountable To: Lead Pastor
  • Position: Student Minister  
  • Ultimate responsibility: Be a "team-player" in supporting and fulfilling the mission, vision, and doctrinal beliefs of Southwest Baptist Church.
  • General description of role: Working with and assisting the Lead Pastor. Leading the children and youth ministries with an emphasis on youth.

Qualifications

  • An upstanding Christian testimony and character.
  • A professional and enthusiastic personality with excellent people skills, including an encouraging, positive attitude with a team-player mentality.
  • The ability to work with existing children and youth ministry teams.
  • The ability to design and create announcements or advertisements for submission to the media support teams.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft/Google Applications.
  • Previous experience preferred.
  • Must submit to a criminal background check.

Job Duties

1.  Assist in the development and execution of  children/youth services/events.

  • Create and carry out lesson plans for Wednesday night services (Grades 6-12). Be on campus at least an hour prior to services in order to oversee youth as they arrive. During the service, be creative and BOLD. Include games, praise and worship time, large group lessons, and small group sessions led by the youth ministry team. Small group leaders need to be provided with study material one week prior to service. 
  • Coordinate and create a rotating schedule for children’s Wednesday night services. 
  • Teach a middle or high school Sunday school class. 
  • Plan and carry out Sunday night services for youth grades 6-12. 
  • Track attendance of youth and reach out to absentees. Make home visits when necessary. 
  • Provide curriculum alignment for all student ministries. 
  • Organize, delegate, and oversee children’s church. Create a calendar for volunteers and ensure that the rotations are being fulfilled each Sunday. Provide workers with materials and lesson plans needed to teach children church lessons one week prior to service. 
  • Meet with children and youth ministry teams monthly to plan events for the students of Southwest Baptist Church. 
  • Plan, organize, oversee, and attend children and youth’s winter/summer camps. 
  • Plan, organize, oversee, and attend DNOW each February. Utilize the youth ministry team to help organize this event and establish host homes.
  • Plan, organize, and oversee VBS.  
  • Plan and manage the budget for the children/youth ministries.
  • Provide monthly updates to the congregation of all children/youth activities.
  • Keep the youth facility CLEAN.
  • Have STRONG communication skills. Utilize Remind, text, email, church app, etc. to communicate with students and parents. 
  • Prepare advertisements/announcements to be displayed weekly during Sunday morning services as well as the church app/social media. 
  • Visit schools throughout Decatur County weekly (covering multiple schools and grade levels each month).
  • Attend FCA meetings weekly. (Middle and/or high school)
  • Attend extracurricular activities monthly (Ball games, band concerts, plays, etc.)
  • Plan monthly student outreach events-bonfires, movie nights, etc. Utilize the children/youth ministry teams for help in planning and carrying out the events. 
  • Will be required to meet with and provide updates to the search committee as defined in the contract.

2.  Fulfill ministerial  staff responsibilities.

  • Maintain principles of great Christian conduct and character, ministry competence, and chemistry. This includes an enthusiastic desire to work with people and a humble servant's heart.
  • Communicate and coordinate all ministry area-related functions/events with the Executive Pastor.
  • Attend church-wide functions (including Sunday morning worship) and any other function as requested by or negotiated with the Lead Pastor, including but not limited to staff meetings and leadership meetings.
  • Adhere to the church's Constitution, By-Laws, and Official Policies, including the Staff Policy Manual.
  • Submit to performance evaluations. 

Expectaions

  • Develop, manage, and grow the youth ministry.
  • Partner with parents to promote the spiritual growth of their children. 
  • Implement a ministry process where the youth are assimilated into the whole life of the church, encouraging youth to serve side by side with adults in a variety of ministries and lead some aspects of worship service.
  • Be open-minded and flexible in collaboration with team members.
  • Obtain a CDL passenger endorsement license to drive the bus within 90 days. 
  • Assist as requested any additional responsibilities set forth by the Lead Pastor.
