New GBC meeting schedule brings changes to resolutions process

Posted

As many of you probably know by now, there will be an abbreviated schedule for this year’s 2020 Georgia Baptist Convention at Ingleside Baptist Church in Macon. Because of these changes, there will also be the need to amend the resolution process.

As in previous years, resolutions may be submitted to the Resolutions Committee up to a week prior to the convention. All resolutions must be sent to my office (mgriffin@gabaptist.org) by Nov. 3. I have taken John Bryan’s place as the Mission Board staff person responsible for advising the Resolutions Committee.

Additional resolutions must be submitted in person on the day of the convention, Monday Nov. 9. Because of the abbreviated schedule, it must be submitted by 2 p.m. to the registration desk.

The Resolutions Committee, chaired by David Mills, pastor of Beech Haven Baptist Church in Athens, will meet Sunday night and Monday afternoon to complete their review process of all resolutions. The Resolutions Committee will then recommend resolutions at 4:30 p.m. Monday afternoon to the convention.

Changes regarding the procedures of receiving and voting on resolutions will be voted on by the Convention during the first part of the convention schedule on Monday.

All resolutions sent in and approved by the committee before Monday will be printed and handed out before the vote. Any additional resolutions turned in and approved on Monday will be displayed on the screen for all to see before the vote takes place.

Thank you so much in advance for your cooperation. This year has been an extraordinary year for creativity when it comes to completing otherwise simple tasks!

If you have any questions on the new procedures, please feel free to contact me at mgriffin@baptist.org or call me at (770) 936-5365.
