DULUTH — Georgia Baptist churches have a few more weeks to nominate high school seniors as candidates for one of the 30 scholarships awarded annually through the Georgia Baptist Education Commission.

Each year Georgia Baptist colleges and the Education Commission award the scholarships to Baptist students who will be graduating at the end of that school year. If selected, students can receive $1,000 yearly for up to four years while enrolled at either Brewton-Parker College, Truett McConnell University, or Shorter University. Nominees must be active members of a church affiliated with the Georgia Baptist Convention and nominated by Georgia Baptist pastors or church staff.

Nominations can be made online through the Education Commission site and selecting the Student Achievement Award Form. A downloadable form for printing off and sending in via mail or fax is also available. Deadline is Nov. 1. For more information call (800) 746-4422 ext 232 or (770) 936-5232.

After receiving nominations, the Education Commission office will send applications to all candidates. A statewide committee will review the applications and select recipients in January. Although academic achievement is the primary consideration, church and community involvement will also factor in the selection process.
