Dealing with anxiety

Posted

Anxiety is something everyone deals with at times. I say “everyone,” but there are some who worry less than others but, all of us, at times, are anxious about something.

Maybe we are anxious about money. Or maybe it’s our health or our kids or our job. But all of us at times, deal with some degree of anxiety.

Psalms 94:19 says, “When my anxious thoughts multiply within me, Thy consolations delight my soul.” Think about that verse. “When my anxious thoughts multiply…” Most of us have some anxiety but, there are times when our anxious thoughts multiply and we are anxious about lots of things. The Psalmist said when his anxious thoughts multiplied "thy consolations delight my soul.” When the Psalmist was anxious, the Lord consoled him.

The Lord wants to do the same with us. But how does God console us?

He does it through His word. There are many scriptures that deal with anxiety. Psalm 55:22 says, “Cast your burden upon the Lord and He will sustain you.”

I Peter 5:7 says, “…casting all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you.”

Matthew 6:34 says, “… Do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”

And there are more. So, God consoles us through His word. God consoles us through music. Sometimes, a soothing hymn or song of praise can soothe our spirits. Sometimes God may use a Christian friend to console us.

So, whatever you are concerned about today, give it to the Lord. When our anxious thoughts multiply, the Lord consoles us.
