Longtime Georgia pastor Edward Mimbs, 75, died April 7 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Savannah after a sudden illness.

Mimbs was a graduate of Georgia Baptist Bible Institute in Norman Park, earning a Master’s Degree in Pastoral Ministry in 1977. Beginning in 1959 he pastored 11 churches in Georgia, including Higgston Baptist Church, Altamaha Baptist Church, Brookfield Baptist Church, and most recently as interim pastor at Vidalia Baptist Temple, where he was also a member. He served three missions during his ministry, two of which later became churches.

Mimbs is survived by his wife of 55 years, Marjorie; sons Randall, of Lyons, and Roderick, of Palmdale, CA; daughter Selena Lockley, of Lyons; sister Jean Payton; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Jeffery Lee Mimbs, and sister, Jeanette Mimbs Tapley.
