MARTINEZ — Gene Chizik, former head football coach at Auburn University, spoke at Abilene Baptist Church near Augusta this past Sunday, Sept. 23. He shared about faith, family, and coaching in the 8:30 and 11 a.m. worship services.
There were 63 professions of faith, 48 rededications, and 12 people wanted to speak with someone about their relationship with Christ.
Football players and coaches from nine area schools were in attendance. Teams were provided a pancake breakfast and got to meet Coach Chizik before hearing him speak in the 11 am service.
Family over football
Chizik has been a part of two National Championships as a college football coach, but is winning on a different field today. Chizik is now an entrepreneur, ESPN/SEC Network analyst, and motivational speaker. A father of three, Chizik put family over football when he stepped down after successful coaching stops at the University of Texas, Iowa State University, Auburn University, and the University of North Carolina.
Brad Whitt serves as pastor of Abilene Baptist Church.
