ROME — Paul Chelimo, who ran track for Shorter University, will appear at Olympic Stadium in Rio Wednesday at 10:05 a.m. EST for a preliminary race in the 5000 meters. Chelimo will be one of three athletes representing the United States.
As a freshman Chelimo and the Hawks won both the Indoor and Outdoor NAIA National Championshiops in 2011. He finished first in the 3000M and as part of the winning distance medley team in the indoor championship. Outdoors, he won both the 5000M and 10,000M distances.
Chelimo finished third at the Olympic trials behind Bernard Lagat and Hassan Mead. Should he advance out of the preliminary round, the 5000M final will be held Saturday, Aug. 20 at 9:30 p.m. EST on NBS.
