Georgia Baptists named to serve on various committees at SBC annual meeting

PHOENIX — The 2017 Southern Baptist Convention Committee on Nominations has made its selections for those to serve on the various boards and committees of denominational entities. Included among those entities are the SBC Executive Committee, the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission, the six seminaries, the Committee on Order of Business, and the four denominational boards – International Mission Board, North American Mission Board, LifeWay Christian Resources, and GuideStone Financial Resources.
Messengers to the annual meeting, held June 13-14 in Phoenix, make the final approval on the nominees.
Executive Committee – Ann H. Watts, church accompanist at Heatherwood Baptist in Newnan, replaces Wayne Robertson, pastor, Morningside Baptist Church, Valdosta. Watts’ term will expire in 2021.
GuideStone Financial Resource – Fred Lodge, pastor of First Baptist Church in Blairsville, replaces Bryant Wright, pastor of Johnson Ferry Baptist Church in Marietta. Lodge’s term will expire in 2021.
International Mission Board – J. Allen Hill, director of Appalachee Baptist Association, was nominated for a second term.
LifeWay Christian Resources – Nominated for second terms are Paul Baxter, director of Pine Mountain Baptist Association, and Wayne C. Morgan, a layman at First Baptist Church in Covington.
Southwestern Seminary – Nominated for a second term is Jeff Crook, pastor, Blackshear Place Baptist Church, Flowery Branch.
Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission – Jimmy Patterson, pastor of First Baptist Church of Newnan, will replace Tim Jones, pastor of Britt David Baptist Church in Columbus, who declined to serve a second term. Patterson’s term will expire in 2021.
