Today’s Scripture: Psalm 136
When I think back on my childhood, I am amazed at the patience of my parents. I was stubborn, strong-willed, accident-prone, and just downright difficult sometimes (ok, most of the time).
What is amazing is that my parents loved me through it all. Even when I accused my parents of not loving me, their love was constant and unconditional – even if it was “tough” sometimes.
My parents’ love is pretty amazing, but even that pales in comparison to the love our heavenly Father has for us.
Psalm 136 is a laundry list of ways that God showed his love to his people. For 36 verses, the psalmist lists example after example of God’s faithfulness. At the conclusion of each remark, he repeats that famous refrain: “for his steadfast love endures forever.”
God has always been loving, and he always will be. God has been loving from the foundation of time, and he will be loving throughout eternity. Through our trials and triumphs, in our suffering and in our singing, from our valleys to our victories, God has never stopped loving us.
If we feel we have nothing else to be thankful for, we can always be thankful for this – His steadfast love endures forever.
Today’s Prayer: Father, thank you for your steadfast love. Thank you for always loving me. Help me to trust in your love for me, no matter what I go through.
