Let Us Thank Him for Our Food

Today’s Scripture: 1 Timothy 4:3-4
Many children who grew up in a Christian home learned the following prayer at a young age: “God is great. God is good. Let us thank him for our food. By his hands we are fed. Thank you, Lord, for daily bread. Amen.”
Can you imagine life without food? What if the world did not have the taste of strawberries or hot buttered bread? What if we never got to enjoy the sweetness of honey or the tartness of a fresh-squeezed lemon? Life would certainly lose some of its flavor.
In today’s world, food is something we often take for granted. We would do well to remember that the food we eat did not originate in a Publix aisle or even in a farmer’s field. The food we eat is a gift from God, and such a gift should be received with thanksgiving.
In 1 Timothy 4:3-4, we are told that “God created [foods] to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth. For everything created by God is good.”
In His goodness and grace, God provides us with everything we need for life, including our food. And to top it off, He even makes it taste good.
So go ahead and pass the butter, and thank the Lord for his provision.
Today’s Prayer: Father, thank you for consistently providing the sustenance that I need every day.
