The push for LGBT rights continues

Senator Jeff Merkley (D-Ore.) and Representative David Cicilline (D-R.I.) are sponsoring the Equality Act in their respective legislative bodies that would provide special privileges to people who identify as lesbians, gay, bisexual, and transgendered.

According to the U. S. News and World Report the sponsors of this bill “hope to harness the momentum generated by the Supreme Court’s landmark decision legalizing gay marriage."

To date at least 40 senators have indicated their willingness to back the bill and 155 House Democrats have signed on as co-sponsors, according to The Huffington Post. Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton has also indicated her support for the proposed legislation.

“The measure would prohibit discrimination against LGBT persons in categories ranging from employment and housing to education and jury service, and would broaden where discrimination would be illegal in a 'public accommodation' to include everything from shopping centers and banks to travel agencies and funeral parlors.”

If the Equality Act (S. 1858 and H.R. 3185) is allowed to pass, it would act as a supercharged version of the failed – and inaccurately titled – Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA). It would encompass laws governing public accommodations, public facilities, public educational institutions, private employment, housing, credit, and jury selection.

The Family Research Council explains “This "Un-equality Act" would change more than 25 provisions of the U.S. Code and would effectively require high schools to allow boys in the girls' locker rooms, strip elementary schools of the authority to dismiss a kindergarten teacher for transitioning from a male to a female during the course of the school year, and could force religious hospitals to provide sex-change operations and family-owned businesses to affirm such behavior.

“Not only that, but this sweeping legislation specifically limits the ability of people who object to its requirements from seeking accommodations based on their religious beliefs in natural marriage. Thus, in the battle between special rights for homosexuals and freedom, the Equality Act strips conscientious objectors of their freedom and would, by law, require their compliance with the LGBT agenda.”

It appears that gay activists don’t just want equality, but they want to dominant and force everyone else to not only accept their views, but celebrate them. Furthermore, if you disagree with their views, this proposed legislation is aimed at getting the government to punish you for not agreeing. The LGBT community is not merely interesting in being equal; they want to be dominant.

Act now to ensure religious liberties are not trampled at the feet of liberal LGBT activists. Contact your Members of Congress today, and tell them to oppose the inaccurately-titled Equality Act.
