Two men have been indicted in the case of a tractor-trailer rig found with 53 dead or dying migrants inside in San Antonio. A statement from the U.S. Attorney's Office in San Antonio says 46-year-old Homero Zamorano Jr. and 28-year-old Christian Martinez, both of Pasadena, Texas, were indicted Wednesday on counts of transporting and conspiring to transport migrants illegally resulting in death; and transporting and conspiring to transport migrants illegally resulting in serious injury.

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) — An Indiana man who ran into a burning home and saved five people, including a 6-year-old girl he carried as he jumped out of a second-floor window, says he’s no hero and the serious injuries he suffered in the dramatic rescue were “all worth it.” Twenty-five-year-old Nick Bostic of Lafayette was driving on July 11 in the northwestern Indiana city when he saw a house in flames, stopped, and ran inside to alert its residents.

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Leaders of Indiana’s Senate have proposed banning abortion with limited exceptions. The proposal announced Wednesday will be taken up during a special legislative session that is scheduled to begin Monday, making Indiana one of the first states to debate tighter abortion laws following the U.S. Supreme Court decision last month overturning Roe v. Wade.

GRAFORD, Texas (AP) — Authorities say a wildfire has burned at least five homes and resulted in about 300 homes being evacuated around a lake in north Texas amid sweltering temperatures and dry conditions. Texas A&M Forest Service spokesperson Adam Turner says the fire at Possum Kingdom Lake about 95 miles west of Dallas has burned about 500 acres and was 10% contained Tuesday.

Women have served with the iconic flight squadron in other capacities for more than 55 years, but never before as a pilot. The Navy announced Monday that Lt. (AP) — Police say three people were fatally shot and two were injured at an Indiana mall after a man with a rifle opened fire in a food court and an armed civilian shot and killed him. Greenwood Police Department Chief Jim Ison says the man entered the Greenwood Park Mall on Sunday evening with a rifle and several magazines of ammunition and began firing in the food court.

NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nev. (AP) — Authorities say four people are dead after two small planes collided at North Las Vegas Airport. The Federal Aviation Administration says a single-engine Piper PA-46 and a single-engine Cessna 172 collided around noon Sunday. They say the Piper was preparing to land when it collided with the Cessna.
