I am constantly inspired by Georgia Baptists who give witness to the incredible, saving Gospel of Jesus Christ. I never tire of hearing stories of how God is at work through our fine folks who are serious about their faith and demonstrate their desire to see others come to a saving knowledge of faith in Jesus Christ.

Barbara Turner is one such Georgia Baptist. She is a member of the Jubalheirs, our Georgia Baptist singing women whom God has used literally all around the world. When they join with our singing men, the Sons of Jubal, they are the Jubal Chorus, an amazing choir of around 400 voices strong. Jon Duncan leads the Sons of Jubal and the Jubalheirs, and he is the one who related this story to me about Barbara Turner.

Barbara went on the Jubalheir mission weekend to Columbus, Georgia several months ago. The ladies were involved in numerous projects. At one point a gentleman approached Barbara and asked her about why the group was there helping the people of Columbus. Barbara turned the conversation to the Gospel and led the man to receive Christ as Savior. Several months later, she sent him a Bible. His wife called Barbara to thank her for the Bible and to share what a difference his decision to follow Christ had made, and also, to share that he had been killed recently.

At the funeral, the Bible was placed in the casket, and the wife removed it before his burial. The wife spoke to Barbara about how she treasures the Bible that had been such a blessing to her husband. She said the Bible is a tangible reminder that her husband is now in heaven with the Lord.

Barbara is an active member at First Baptist Church of Blue Ridge and has sung in the Jubalheirs since 2004.

Thank you, Barbara for your faithfulness that made an eternal difference in the life of that gentleman and blessed his family beyond measure.

I guess the obvious question is, “Have you done that for anybody recently, or ever?” The lost are all around us. They desperately need to be saved and so many are simply waiting for someone who is a Christian and knows how to be saved to tell them how they too can be saved. We should not be agitated over the way lost people are acting in America and across the world. They are acting just like lost people act. The answer is to show them Jesus.

I encourage you to do what Barbara did; tell somebody today about Jesus and how they can receive Him as their Savior.
