Ready to forgive

My wife, Sheri, and I have been blessed with three great children: Samuel, 13, Anna, 12, and Daniel, 10. They love to race! Not quite as much today as a few years ago, but even now it does not take much to ignite their competitive fires to see who is the fastest among the Carr kids. This normally ends up with me outside shouting a two-word start, “Ready, Go!” And they are off to the designated finished line.
I was reading in the Psalms not long ago and came across Psalm 86:5, “For you, Lord, are good, and ready to forgive, and abundant in mercy to all those who call upon you.” It made my mind race back to my children standing at the starting line “ready” to run.
What a wonderful God who is not just willing to forgive, but with eager anticipation longs to forgive us when we sin. Like the prodigal’s father who, “While a long way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran and fell on his neck and kissed him.”
Thank you, Lord, for being “ready to forgive.”
