State Missionary Tim McClure, 69, died on May 27

CORNELIA — State Missionary Timothy Elbert McClure, age 69, died on May 27 after an extended illness.

McClure, formerly of Gastonia, NC, served the Northeast Area Missions Program for the Georgia Baptist Mission Board with responsibility for mission work in Habersham, Enon, Liberty, and Rabun Associations. He had served in that role since 2005.

McClure was born in Gaston County, NC, son of the late William Harley and Edith Miller McClure. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 49 1/2 years, Wanda McMahan McClure; and infant son, Jeffery Scott McClure.

He was a member of Baldwin Baptist Church in Baldwin and had served as pastor of Southside Baptist Church and Temple Baptist Church, both in Gastonia, NC.

Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Tammie and Stephen Tanner of Gastonia, NC; son and daughter-in-law, Rev. David & Jill McClure of Mount Holly, NC; brother and sister-in-law, Mike and Evelyn McClure of Bessemer City, NC; grandchildren, Kaylee and fiance, John Stroup, and Kelsey Tanner of Gastonia, NC, Caleb Lynch and fiance, Morgan Fuller, and Destiny McClure of Mount Holly, NC; nieces & spouses, Amy & Tom Summit of York, SC and, Jennifer & Kevin Yount, of Dallas, NC; great-nephew, Ethan; great-niece, Elana.

Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 31, at the main campus of Bethlehem Baptist Church, 3100 Bethlehem Church St. in Gastonia, NC. Visitation will be from noon until 1:30 p.m. prior to the service.

A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 1, at Bethlehem Baptist Church, 624 Highway 197 North in Clarksville, GA. Visitation with the family will be from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to New Life Baptist Church, 527 N. Buckoak Street, Stanley, NC 28164.
