Annual Convention Inspirational Rally to feature White, Platt on Nov. 12

LAWRENCEVILLE — Christian Index readers have long recognized the clarion call which the state paper maintains for mission support at home and abroad. In fact, the paper’s slogan of “Reaching the World Through Mission Georgia” pretty much condenses the Georgia Baptist Mission Board’s calling into just six words.

Messengers to this year’s Inspirational Rally will hear that calling brought into sharp focus through two nationally recognized missions advocates.

J. Robert White

The Rally will be held from 6 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 12, at the host church for the 196th annual meeting – North Metro Baptist Church in the northern Atlanta suburbs. The annual Convention will follow the next two days, beginning at 6 p.m. on Nov. 13 and concluding at 5:30 p.m. on Nov. 14.

Georgia Baptist Mission Board Executive Director J. Robert White will deliver the Mission Inspiration sermon detailing the call of missions in the Peach State, the largest state East of the Mississippi River. He will be followed by Georgia native David Platt, who now serves as president of the International Mission Board in Richmond, VA.

David Platt

The speakers will center their sermons around Matthew 9:37, which serves as the annual meeting’s theme of “The Harvest Truly is Plentiful …” Atlanta pastor Pozie Redmon of New Calvary Missionary Baptist Church will deliver the benediction following Platt’s message.

A reception for Platt, who grew up in Briarlake Baptist Church in suburban Atlanta, will follow in Fellowship Hall, Building A.

The state Convention will be observing White’s 25th anniversary on Tuesday afternoon of the annual meeting. The celebration will begin at 4:45 p.m. and precede the last order of business, the installation of new officers, which will begin at 5:25 p.m. The meeting will conclude with the 5:30 p.m. benediction delivered by Herman Parker, pastor of First Baptist Church of Bremen.

Worship leader for the rally will be Al Denson of Grapevine, TX, who will also lead congregational praise for the Convention meeting. Special music for the Rally will be provided by Cliff Duren and Overflow.
