MOUNT VERNON — Faculty, staff, trustees, and community leaders gathered Aug. 20 to celebrate the summer renovation of Dowling Hall, Brewton-Parker College's female residence hall. Attendees gathered to dedicate the dorm to be used to fulfill the mission of BPC to see the lives of students transformed academically and spiritually for the glory of God.

The renovation was made possible thanks to a $75,000 donation from Ken Dowling, Brewton-Parker Board of Trustees member and longtime supporter of the college.

“BPC is very grateful for the very generous provision by Ken and Marsha Dowling to allow an extensive renovation of the dorm,” stated Brewton-Parker President Steve Echols.

“The original naming gift that allowed the dorm to be built was given by Ken Dowling’s parents in memory of his grandparents, Wiley L. Dowling and Cordelia Thomas Dowling. This latest gift is in memory of Ken Dowling’s parents, W. Edwin Dowling and Primrose Palmer Dowling, who gave the original gift.

“The building was originally dedicated on Feb. 18, 1998. Now some 18 years later, the dorm has been thoroughly renovated with new flooring, painting, new roof, new bathroom fixtures, renovated dorm lobby and laundry room, and much more.

“Because of this gracious gift, Dowling Hall will be able to serve the lodging needs of women students who attend BPC for years to come.”
