Doud remembered as pastor of several GBC churches and associational work

EASTANOLLEE — Herbert E. Doud, longtime Georgia Baptist pastor and associational missionary for Tugalo Baptist Association, died April 26 at Stephens County Hospital. He was 97.

Doud was born in Pennsylvania and lived there through high school before hitchhiking to Atlanta in 1941. There, he attended Atlanta Bible College, where he met his future wife, Sue. Self-teaching himself to play the accordion, he would perform on the streets of downtown Atlanta to draw a crowd while someone else preached. He would go on to serve as pastor of several Georgia Baptist churches, including: White Hall Baptist, Blacks Creek Baptist, Pendergrass Baptist, Providence Baptist, and Martin Baptist as well as a mission church in Dublin.

In 1956 he began his tenure at Tugalo Baptist Association as associational missionary, which he kept until his retirement in 1988. In retirement he was minister of music at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and then organist for 16 years at Liberty Hill Baptist.

Preceded in death by his wife and a son, Donny, survivors include sons Danny, of Eastanollee, David, of Milledgeville, Douglas, of Loganville, and Dale, of Gainesville; eight grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
