ELLIJAY — First Baptist Church Ellijay called Glenn Cummings as pastor after a 16-month search. Glenn and his wife, Caprice, will be moving from Maryville, TN, where he has been serving as pastor of Madison Avenue Baptist Church since 1996.

A native of Rome, the new Ellijay pastor moved with his family to Thomasville when he was three years old. He is a graduate of Thomasville High School, Union University. In addition, he carries a Master of Divinity degree from New Orleans Seminary and Doctor of Ministry degree from Luther Rice Seminary.

Cummings served Lydia Baptist Church in Lydia, LA and Dug Gap Baptist Church in Dalton prior to his 20-year ministry in Maryville, TN. One dozen of his 18 international mission trips took him to Brazil, where his Maryville church constructed and paid for 46 chapels.

In Maryville, Cummings led his church to support local mission projects and efforts to rural Appalachia in Kentucky. He has also served as the chaplain of the Alcoa High School football team and the Alcoa Police Department.

A prolific writer, Cummings has also authored seven books, many crafted from his sermon preparation and serve will as Bible study guides.

'Strong and solid'

In their communication to First Baptist Ellijay the pastor search team explained, “Dr. Cummings is a strong and solid preacher. He delivers messages of substance based on God’ Word to guide and empower God’s people. Dr. Cummings is a true pastor and possesses a heart that is open to his congregation and to his community.

“He is a missions-minded pastor and is personally involved with his church as they try to reach out to those needing Christ at home and abroad. He has a vision for ministry and ... is anxious to work with our staff and membership to accomplish common goals to carry out God’s commission for First Baptist Ellijay.

“His wife, Caprice, is a totally supportive and committed partner in his ministry and comes with a wealth of gifts and talents to support her husband and our church.”

The Cummings have two grown children, Brooke and Bradley.

Ellijay First Baptist will welcome its new pastor and his family on Christmas day when he begins his service in the county seat town of the Gilmer County church.
