Georgia Baptist camps are canceled for July

The Georgia Baptist Mission Board has made the difficult decision to cancel its summer camps in July. Leadership of the mission board cited the ongoing concerns with the novel coronavirus as well as Georgia’s recent policies for hosting camps as major factors in the decision. This decision comes after June camps were canceled in April.

This decision only impacts camps sponsored by the mission board, as the Toccoa Conference Center and Pinnacle Retreat Center will still host smaller events under strict guidelines. Assistant Executive Director Mark Marshall issued a statement yesterday:

“It is with great difficulty we had to cancel our GBMB sponsored camps for the summer of 2020. It is our mission to see Georgia won to Christ, and our camps are a key part of helping churches deliver the gospel to our students. As we looked at the Executive Orders of our Governor concerning guidelines for overnight camps, it simply was not feasible to hold camps. In the best interest of the safety of the students and their families we made the determination to not have camps this year. We will be back better than ever in 2021.”

Mission board leadership also emphasized the time and research that impacted the decision to cancel camps. Leadership also stated, “It is also crucial to maintain the safety and comfort of the campers and staff.”

SuperWow in Toccoa, July 6-10

Camp Kaleo:

• Overnight Adventure Camps
• Day Camps
• RA Lad Camps
• RA Crusaders Camps
