WATKINSVILLE – Lee Hunter, former employee for the University of Georgia BCM from 1994 to 2010, died on Oct. 11. He was 71 years old.

Hunter was pastor of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church at the time of his death and continued to serve at the UGA BCM as cook and in maintenance until very recently.

Additionally, Hunter served as pastor of several churches in Georgia since the age of 17, including Appalache Baptist Church, Mt. Tabor Baptist, High Shoals Baptist, Pendergrass Baptist, Kingtown Baptist, West End Baptist, Union Baptist, Powelton Baptist, Blacks Creek Baptist, Arnoldsville Baptist, Apple Valley Baptist, Academy Baptist, and Edwards Chapel Baptist.

Hunter also worked with the Georgia Baptist Children’s Homes for three years.

"He was one of those guys who was available to help keep things operating. He'd fix a door, a faucet, whatever we needed. He cooked many, many meals for our BCM students over the years," Joe Graham, Collegiate Ministry catalyst for the Georgia Baptist Mission Board, said of Hunter.

His funeral was on Oct. 17th at Lord and Stephens Funeral Home in Watkinsville.

Because of his love for collegiate ministry and missions, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the University of North Georgia BCM Send Me Now Missions Fund in memory of Mr. Lee Hunter at 166 Park Street South, Dahlonega, GA 30533, or to Gideons International at www.gideons.org.
