Mission Georgia Roundtables set to take place in each region

Collaboration among churches, associations, non-profit ministries and community agencies is a key factor in Mission Georgia’s work. During April, Mission Georgia Roundtables will gather leaders from each of these groups for a collaborative conversation.

Lorna Bius, Mission Georgia Mobilizer, will facilitate each roundtable. Participants will have an opportunity to hear from one another about efforts related to foster care, childhood literacy, human trafficking, refugees/internationals and pre/postnatal care. Bius said pastors, church staff, and volunteers are welcome to attend.

"Church staff are invited as well as church leaders such as mission, children or youth leaders," Bius said. "We’re also inviting associational and non profit ministry leaders. If a pastor can't attend, the hope is that churches will still send a representative."

A virtual roundtable took place in February, after a spike in COVID-19 cases led to in-person cancellations. More than 150 individuals joined the online discussion to hear about the direction of Mission Georgia’s work in 2021.

"Roundtables have been a great way for our Georgia Baptist staff to connect with our churches," Bius said. "These will be the first in-person Mission Georgia Roundtables. We hope to provide these events in different locations during mid January and February each year."

Bius said each person will walk away from these discussions with new connections and ideas to bring the gospel to those who are farthest from it.

"The roundtables will be a time for church members and staff to hear about opportunities to serve the community in specific ways this year," Bius said. Attendees will hear from local non-profit ministries, and I’ll share about Mission Georgia initiatives focusing on childhood literacy and foster care."

During the 2020 Georgia Baptist Convention Annual Meeting, Bius highlighted childhood literacy and foster care as focuses for the year 2021, although the other three areas of Mission Georgia will still be active.

The first location will be at Bethlehem Church on Thursday, April 1 with lunch provided. Columbus and Cordele will follow on April 6 and April 8, and then in the Atlanta area on April 15 in Clarkston. The roundtable tour will go through Gray on April 22 with a dinner provided, and conclude in Valdosta with lunch.
