New app walks you through the stages of Easter

Related Scripture and maps provide depth in understanding the various points of the Easter story.

Whether the Triumphal Entry, Garden of Gethsemane, or hearing the cries of "Crucify him!", an app helps bring the events of Easter to you next month in real time.

The free app, EasterNow, sends alerts to users on various stages of Easter, beginning with the Triumphal Entry at 11 a.m. on Palm Sunday,  April 9. Included with each update are background on that event, Scripture, and maps providing greater clarity. Old Testament passages show the fulfillment of prophecy while New Testament sections outline the events themselves.

The app, which became available on March 26, can be found at the Apple Store and Google Play.

EasterNow arrives courtesy of married Texas attorneys Gregory Love and Kimberlee Norris. The couple may be better known as the founders and directors of MinistrySafe, created to train churches in keeping children secure from predators. However, for more than 20 years they've also been working with students at Christ Chapel Bible Church in Fort Worth, TX.

Good news, bad news

In 1999, Love and Norris began walking their students through the events of Passion Week in text messages. In return, Love says, students "walked" in first century Jerusalem. "The impact has been profound," he told The Index. "And the effort developed into yearly sending of texts to thousands of people in a group text network."

But as you can imagine, sending out those texts grew unsustainable even before the recipient number approached 15,000. The solution proved to be circuitous. After all, technology started it; technology provided the solution.

"Once loaded on your phone, EasterNow automatically sends step-by-step notifications of all the events Christ encountered during Easter week – all in real time," said Love. "The goal is to bring all the events of Easter "to life."
