Anniversaries

New Harmony Baptist Church in Sarepta Association held its 100th anniversary gathering on Aug. 20.

New Hope Baptist Church in Scooterville celebrated homecoming Sept. 10 with guest preacher Bill Suggs and special music proved by Brandon Hughes. 

First Baptist Church in Sandersville celebrated Rick Freeman's 15 years as minister of music on Aug. 4

Deacons

Earlier this month Waycross First Baptist Church installed the following as active deacons: David Hitt (chairman), Jay Howard (vice chairman), Tommy Hatcher, Tony Hendrix, Chris Rolinson, Keith Crummey, Owen Herrin, Tommy Tapley, Dewey Newman, Bo Griffin, Robby Sowell, Kevin Barnes, Jamie Bruner, and Randy Yonz.

Deaths

Longtime Northside Baptist Church, Valdosta Pastor Doug Reddick died June 30 at Langdale Hospice House. He was 90.

A native of Detroit, MI, Reddick moved to Valdosta in 1955 to become pastor of Northside, remaining in that capacity until 1992. While in Valdosta he oversaw many expansions to the church, led in missions, and wrote a book on the church's history, A Half Century of God's Grace and Glory. In retirement he served as interim pastor at several churches in south Georgia and north Florida. 

Prior to coming to Northside, Reddick had been a chaplain's assistant in the U.S. Army Air Corp from 1947-45. He was also an accomplished amateur photographer and enjoyed woodworking. A licensed aircraft pilot, Reddick had owned three airplanes. 

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Rena Woods Reddick, of Valdosta; son Paul, of Savannah; daughter Elizabeth Fitzgerald, of Fairfield, OH; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Barbara Stevenson, of Charlotte, NC. 

Ministerial Moves

Poplar Springs Baptist Church in Catoosa County Association called Jeff Barry as pastor. His first Sunday was Sept. 3.

Steve Beal was recently called as interim pastor at Lulaton Baptist Church in Piedmont-Okefenokee Association.

First Baptist Church Colquitt welcomed Chad Cooper as pastor. 

David Crowdis recently retired after 18 years as pastor of Enterprise Baptist Church in Bethel Association.

Heath Kahlbau recently began as pastor of First Baptist Church in Bainbridge.

Michael Kirby resigned as pastor of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church in Catoosa County to serve as pastor of a church in New Mexico.

Waycross First Baptist Church welcomed Charlie Mayberry as pastor on June 25. He is joined by his wife, Amy, and daughters Greta and Aggie.

What's Happening

First Baptist Church in Sandersville will have its Spiritual Renewal gathering Sept. 24-27 with music by The Akins and guest speaker Dennis Watson.
