Prayers for travel, ministry while in Israel

In a few days I will be traveling to Israel with 300 of my good friends. They are ministers of music and worship, pastors, instrumentalists, Georgia Baptist staff and laity from our churches. The focus of the trip will be the declaration of the Gospel through song and a commitment to be ambassadors of encouragement and friendship from the United States to our friends in the Holy Lands. I ask you to keep us in your prayers for a successful mission advance and a safe return.

I am very thankful for the Sons of Jubal, known on this trip as the Singing Men of Georgia, an easier translation. Pray for the Jubal brass as they play concerts and accompany the Singing Men of Georgia.

As you know, wherever the Jubals or Jubalheirs go they are very committed to blessing the people among whom they minister. That is why they are taking literally hundreds of coats for children. It can get quite cold in the Middle East during the winter months, and these coats will be a very clear demonstration of our love for the children and their families.

Yes, I will be singing with the men as well as leading the group of pastors and laity who are not a part of the chorus, but will be touring the places where Jesus walked.

Traveling the Holy Lands is an experience of a lifetime. Once you have been there, it transforms your Bible study, Bible teaching, and preaching. I have had the joy of traveling there several times now, and it never gets old. I have learned something new each time.

Our president of the convention, Don Hattaway, will be traveling with us. Don also sings with the men and will be preaching our worship service for the group on Sunday. Butch Butcher will be preaching that Sunday at Jerusalem Baptist Church. I will be leading worship as we observe the Lord’s Supper at the Garden Tomb, and recounting the amazing story of David and Goliath as we stand above the battlefield at the Valley of Elah.

We will actually be standing on the hill where the Philistine army was encamped, looking across the valley where the stream still trickles across the middle between the two hills. We will be overlooking the hill where the Israelites were encamped when a young shepherd boy named David came from among his brothers and their army companions to challenge the Philistine giant. It will be a highlight of the entire trip.

Pray for our leader, Jon Duncan. God put this ministry on Jon’s and my heart about two years ago. It has been long in planning and long in coming. The anticipation has built and now the time is almost here. Assisting with the planning has been Jon’s staff including Dana Bailey, Mary Margaret Willis, Judy Crumley, Steve Brown, Keith Chandler, and Eddy Oliver. Our tour company is Travelink, based in Nashville, TN. I am thankful for Bill Haire and his fine staff that has made this huge effort manageable.
Please pray with me that God will touch hearts through our efforts and that we will leave a powerful and positive witness when we pack our bags and head back home.
I have never been on an overseas mission without seeing God do something that I was not expecting. Please pray with me that God will touch hearts through our efforts and that we will leave a powerful and positive witness when we pack our bags and head back home. I want to especially thank our churches in Georgia who have enthusiastically encouraged and provided support in many cases for your staff members to be able to be a part of this effort. Your support is so very much appreciated.
