Rome bivocational pastor Norman C. Heyward, Jr., of Rome, dies April 3

Norman C. Heyward, Jr., 60, of Rome, passed away on Monday, April 3, 2017, in a local hospital.

Curtis was born on January 5, 1957, in Augusta, son of the late Norman Curtis Heyward, Sr. and Louise Chance Heyward.

He was employed as a mental health counselor at Hays State Prison while serving as bivocational pastor at Vann’s Valley Baptist Church in Rome for the last 8 years.  Mr. Heyward owned and founded his own private practice, Crossroads Christian Counseling, where he served as a Licensed Professional Counselor.

He is preceded in death by his father, Norman C. Heyward, Sr., and by his daughter, Janie Heyward.

Mr. Heyward is survived by his wife of 33 years, Loresa Pinyan Heyward; a son, Richard Heyward and his wife, Erica, of Rome; a daughter, Jamie Heyward of Rome; his mother, Louise C. Heyward of McDonough; and a brother, Stephen Heyward and his wife Laura of  McDonough.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Thursday, April 6 at 6:30 pm at HBC-Rome (formerly Hollywood Baptist Church) with Rev. David Harper officiating.

The family will receive friends from 6 pm until 6:30 p.m. at the church on Thursday.  At other hours, the family may be contacted at their respective residences.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Haven Health Clinic (formerly Pregnancy Center of Rome).

Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, is in charge of the services.
