Saefkow appoints members to Committee on Nominations

Georgia Baptist Convention President Josh Saefkow has appointed a geographical cross section of church leaders to serve on this year’s Committee on Nominations.

Stephen Williams of Belmont Baptist Church in Calhoun, in his second year on the committee, will serve as chairman.

Other second-year members will be Quillian Mercer, mission strategist in the Washington Baptist Association; Dallas White of The Grove Church in Acworth, Tommy Fountain of 1025 Church in Monroe, Sam Quick of First Baptist Church in Saint Marys.

First-year appointees are Wade Lott of Macedonia Baptist Church in Hiawassee, Brad Whitt of Abilene Baptist Church in Augusta, Bryan Myers of Central Baptist Church in Americus, Dennis Watson of Harps Crossing Baptist Church in Fayetteville, Paul Ballard of First Baptist Church in Thomasville, Fred Anderson of First Baptist Church in Baxley, Garrett Grubbs of Crossroads Church in Valdosta, Charlie Bridges of Grove Level Church in Dalton, Brady Howard of Glen Haven Baptist Church in McDonough, and Greg Ward of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Riverdale.

Saefkow, pastor of Flat Creek Baptist Church in Fayetteville, will serve as an ex officio member, as will Georgia Baptist Executive Committee Chairman David Mills, and Georgia Baptist Mission Board Executive Director W. Thomas Hammond Jr.

The Committee on Nominations will recommend 19 associational full-term Executive Committee members and four at large full-term members for election at this year’s annual meeting. The committee would also recommend replacements for any unexpired terms that become vacant during the year.

The associations may suggest names to the Committee on Nominations for the associational vacancies.

Associations preparing to suggest names for consideration by the Committee on Nominations will receive a nomination form from the Office of the Executive Director and should return the completed forms via email to jjohnson@gabaptist.org or by mail at Office of the Executive Director, 4295 Brogdon Exchange, Suwanee, Georgia 30024-3980.

The Committee on Nominations will meet on April 18, August 8, October 10, and, if needed, November 13.

Associations for which full five-year term (2023-2028) Executive Committee members will be elected in 2023 are Bartow, Bowen, Carrollton, Chattahoochee, Conasauga, Fairburn, Flint River, Friendship, Liberty, Pulaski-Bleckley, Rehoboth, Sarepta, Southeast, Summerhill, Tatnall-Evans, Troup, Tucker, Turner and Western.
