Southeast Baptist Missions director Larry Wilbur dies at 64

BRUNSWICK — Larry Wilbur, director for the Southeast Baptist Missions Association, died Aug. 3 after a yearlong battle with cancer. He was 64.

Wilbur was a native of Memphis, Tenn., and graduate of Memphis State University (University of Memphis). He would go on to earn his Masters of Religious Education from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and a Doctor of Theology at Jacksonville Baptist Theological Seminary. During his ministry, he would teach the gospel throughout Tennessee, Louisiana, Georgia, Florida, and South Carolina.

A member of First Baptist Church in Brunswick for the last eight years, Wilbur served as associate pastor there at the time of his death.

In addition to ministry and spending time with his family, Wilbur was a golfer and fisherman. He was also known for his musical talent and singing voice.

Larry Wilbur is survived by his wife of 46 years, Theresa Gail Wilbur, of Brunswick; sons Jason, of Callahan, Fla., Jeremy, of Arlington, Tenn., and Jordan, of Chesterfield, S.C.; and a brother, Michael, of Munford, Tenn.

A memorial service was held Aug. 8 at First Baptist Church in Brunswick, with Pastor Chris Winford officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made in Wilbur’s name to the “1 Generation 2 Another” capital campaign at First Baptist Brunswick or to the American Cancer Society.
