The Index welcomes Myriah Snyder as content editor

Myriah Snyder joined The Index as content editor on Oct. 1.

DULUTH — At the relatively young age of 26, Myriah Snyder brings a wealth of experience to her position as The Christian Index’s new content editor.  

Snyder, a native of Murray, Ky., has garnered the bulk of her Baptist communications experience in her home state. As a student at University of the Cumberlands, Snyder served as news writer and copy editor for the student newspaper The Patriot on the way to earning her Bachelor of Science degree in English in December 2014. Other journalism experience came during her time attending Mid-Continent University in Mayfield, Ky., where she worked as managing editor for the Mid-Continent Review and student editor of Cougar Connect. In that time she also served as a creative writing essay competition judge and freelance proofreader.  

Prior to joining The Index Snyder served Kentucky Baptists as assistant editor and news writer of The Western Recorder, news journal of the Kentucky Baptist Convention. Thus, Snyder now holds the distinction of working at Southern Baptists’ two oldest newspapers between The Index (founded in 1822) and The Western Recorder (1825). While at The Recorder, Snyder ...  

  • Published hundreds of articles, including approximately 50 on the front page
  • Took photos
  • Rewrote articles for style
  • Edited copy
  • Conducted video reports
  • Designed portions of the print edition
  • Designed ad campaigns
  • Coordinated web content and social media.

Other experience

Snyder’s honors include 2nd place for “Best Enterprise or Analytical Story” and “Best General News Story” at the 2017 Kentucky Press Association Excellence in Kentucky Newspapers competition. During her time with Kentucky Baptists, Snyder also worked with the state’s WMU. In that role she coordinated and sent mailings, oversaw volunteers, and completed clerical requests.  

Other freelance experience for Snyder includes as a live tweet blogger for Walnut Street Baptist Church in Louisville, Ky. as well as a writer for Baptist Press, Kentucky WMU, and Southern Seminary. Prior to her arrival at The Recorder, she served as an intern for Baptist Press in the summer of 2014 and as a publications assistant for Freedom Forever Ministries in Paducah, Ky. Currently, Snyder is also working toward her completion of a Master of Arts in Theological Studies at Southern Seminary.

While attending Walnut Street Baptist in Louisville, Snyder taught Sunday School and assisted in the children’s ministry as well as served on the worship team. Her hobbies include reading biographies or Christian fiction, writing, connecting with friends over coffee, “spoiling her nieces,” and walking her Jack Russell/Chihuahua mix, Pepper.
