KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The Truett McConnell University women's soccer team earned a commanding 7–1 road victory over Johnson University on Wednesday, Oct. 22, in Knoxville. The Lady Bears extended their win streak to 13 and remained undefeated with a 15-0-1 record (12-0 in the Appalachian Athletic Conference).
Ranked 11th in the latest NAIA Women's Soccer Coaches' Top 25 Poll, the team hopes to break into the top 10.
The Lady Bears wasted no time setting the tone, striking early in the second minute when Isabella Hodson found the back of the net off an assist from Grace Montgomery to give TMU the 1–0 advantage. In the 9th minute, Erin Ward doubled the lead with a clear shot into the net. TMU continued its attack as Annabel Trauschke scored in the 13th minute, followed shortly after by Emma Unterrainer's goal in the 15th minute to make it 4–0. Just moments later, Trauschke tallied her second goal of the evening, putting the Lady Bears in full control of the match.
In the 26th minute, Trauschke completed her hat trick with a penalty kick, extending TMU's lead to 6–0. Before halftime, Saige Peterson added one more in the 41st minute to conclude first-half scoring, giving TMU a 7–0 lead heading into the break. In the second half, the Royals managed to add a lone goal to the board, but the Lady Bears' defense held firm for the remainder of the match to secure the 7–1 victory.
Trauschke led the way for TMU with three goals. Hodson, Ward, Unterrainer, and Peterson followed with one goal apiece, while Montgomery tallied one assist.
The Lady Bears will return home to host Spartanburg Methodist College on Saturday, Oct. 25, for an AAC matchup.
