Tabernacle Baptist Church in Cartersville will honor the ministry leadership of Steve McCombs and Don Startup on Sunday, Oct. 6. TBC/Special

CARTERSVILLE — In 1994 Don Startup arrived as minister of worship and Steve McCombs as student pastor at Tabernacle Baptist Church in Cartersville. This Sunday the congregation will honor their 25 years of service, as Startup has continued in his original role while McCombs transitioned 12 years ago to becoming the missions and singles pastor.

On Oct. 6, they will be recognized during the Sunday morning service and then honored again with a reception following the evening service.

“As the minister of worship, Don has spent thousands of hours rehearsing, praying, singing, laughing, and crying with the TBC music team,” said a statement from the church. “Under Don’s leadership, the choir and orchestra consistently deliver anointed worship that has literally impacted the lives of all those who attend or have ever visited Tabernacle.”

During his 13-year tenure as student pastor at TBC, McCombs led or oversaw numerous events and outings such as mission trips, camps, DiscipleNow weekends, retreats, ski trips, Wednesday nights, fellowships, ministry in the schools, Judgement House, musicals, creative ministries, and Sunday morning youth classes. Through that as well as his 12 years as missions pastor, Tabernacle has sent many students and families to the mission field and into the ministry. Currently there are eight mission families on the field and one state missionary who call Tabernacle their sending church or home church.

“Steve is grateful for the many students, parents, and leaders who were faithful to the student ministry,” said the church’s statement. McCombs and his wife, Tonia, have two children, Jennifer and Corey.
