“Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep.” Romans 12:15
A few years ago, I was reminded of how we who are a part of the family of God live through the ups and downs of life together. I called a lady in our church to wish her a happy birthday. She began to reminisce about the blessings of God in her life and with such gratitude rejoiced that all of her children were active in church, were married to dedicated Christians, and had a hunger for the things of God.
Just a few moments after that I received another call. A deacon at a former church I had served, and one of my dearest friends on earth, wanted me to pray for his wayward daughter. The tears and heartache were gut-wrenching as he shared with me her journey away from the Lord. I simply cried with him and prayed for her.
What an honor to be a part the church — a place where we can enjoy victories and agonize over struggles together as a part of the family of God.
