Truett McConnell to offer Master of Business Administration degree

CLEVELAND — Truett McConnell University officials announced recently the school will soon offer its second master’s degree, one that caters to Georgia’s explosive growth in business.

The school's Master of Business Administration begins classes next fall. The degree, say TMU leaders, will place students in position for ministry in an increasingly secular environment.

On Nov. 2 Governor Nathan Deal announced Georgia as  the top state for business for the fourth year in a row. The distinction came via Site Selection magazine, a leading economic development trade publication.

"In the last four years, many small businesses have expanded in Georgia and numerous international companies have established operations here, reflecting the foundation offered to job creators," Deal said. "Georgia leads the way in providing companies with a low tax burden and a business-friendly climate. In return, there have been more than 575,000 private sector jobs created since 2011. This recognition for our statewide economic development is a testament to the unwavering commitment displayed by our industry leaders, community partners, and the people of Georgia.”

Salt and light in the marketplace

“The MBA, with its core two classes of the Doctrine of Revelation and Introduction to Missions, expands our dream in training a generation that trusts God's Word completely and shares Christ faithfully," stated TMU President Emir Caner, adding the degree will allow graduates "to excel in the marketplace while being salt and light (Matthew 5:13-16).”

Those two classes in the program provide a distinction apart from other MBAs, said TMU Vice President for Academic Services Brad Reynolds.

“These foundational courses coupled with the professional content and education of an MBA from a Christian worldview truly prepares the Christian business professional globally,” Reynolds explained. “But the principles of Scripture are not just for the ‘Christian.’ God’s principles, even applied by secular businesses, still provide the ingredients for success.”

A view of business and faith

“I'm excited that the university can now provide students with an opportunity to continue their professional training in a known Christian environment,” said Janet Forney, dean and professor for The Hans Hut School of Business.

MBA classes will take place at the school's Cleveland campus. In addition, the 36 required credit hours include courses in business research methods, managerial finance, and environment of human resource management. Students entering with other than a business degree may need to complete basic management or marketing courses before taking these topics at the graduate level.
