The Social Security Act was passed during the Great Depression in 1935. Because Americans' life expectancy was increasing, Social Security was established to provide retirement income for American workers reaching the age of 65 and disability income for those injured on the job. 

FORT WORTH, Texas — Carl J. Bradford, assistant professor of evangelism and occupant of the Malcolm R. and Melba L. McDow Chair of Evangelism, has been appointed dean of Texas Baptist College, the undergraduate school of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, the institution’s leadership announced today.

It was my turn to teach at the jail on Sunday.  I shared one of my favorite Resurrection stories… Mary Magdalene went to the tomb while it was still dark.  “Dark” was an understatement.

Last week was spring break for my grandchildren. When they returned to school Monday they learned there was a solar eclipse and they would get to participate in watching the eclipse. The schools my granddaughters attend passed out glasses to everyone so they could all be outside and view the eclipse.

CONYERS, Ga. — Georgia Baptist Disaster Relief teams deployed this week to assist homeowners in the wake of a tornado that hit Conyers last week. The EF-2 tornado with maximum winds of 115 mph touched down in Rockdale County early Wednesday morning, April 3, according to the National Weather Service. GBDR teams responded to remove downed trees and clear debris.

MIAMI — Pastor AD Lenoir, senior pastor of Westview Baptist Church in Miami since 2009, was stabbed to death on the steps of his church building Saturday, April 6. Police have arrested James Dawkins, a homeless man whom Lenoir had befriended and had been helping, and have charged Dawkins with first-degree murder.

The Bible affirms that God does not change. As humans, we constantly need to change. As I approach retirement, I am reflecting on both the times of blessing as well as the challenging times. On occasion, my challenging times came because I was fighting against God’s will.

SNELLVILLE Ga. — The Church on Main will not soon forget Hannah’s baptism. A 15-year-old with cerebral palsy, Hannah was nonverbal and communicated through a device that tracked her eye movements and generated speech for her. Through that device, she told her mother she had committed her life to Christ and wanted to be baptized.

Richard Clint Sullens, age 43 of Monroe, GA, passed away April 5, 2024. Born January 21, 1981, in Spartanburg County, South Carolina to Jennie Eubanks Sullens and Richard Fred Sullens, Clint Sullens was raised in Campobello, South Carolina. He surrendered to full-time ministry at 13 years old and attended North Greenville University at age 18 in 1999.

JACKSONVILLE–Tommy Green has announced his retirement after serving Florida Baptists as executive director-treasurer since June 2015. Green shared his plans to retire, effective Dec. 31, 2024, with Florida Baptists’ State Board of Missions, the convention’s governing body, during its regularly scheduled meeting in Jacksonville on April 4.

NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. (KT) - Jezimar “Nuno” Norberto, the worship pastor at Porter Memorial Baptist Church, is thanking God for keeping his wife and two boys safe after a tornado took out the sunroom in his home in Nicholasville. The storm split his roof in half and blew it across the street into a neighbor’s yard. The back wall of the garage was also destroyed.
