Truett McConnell University (TMU) announces the addition of the Master of Arts in Global Studies (MA in Global Studies) degree to be offered on campus and online beginning this fall 2021.

“At the heart of Truett McConnell University is the desire that all of our graduates will be witnesses for the Lord Jesus throughout their lives. In so doing, many of our graduates are now serving as missionaries across the globe,” said President Dr. Emir Caner.

“Now, with the addition of our MA in Global Studies,” Caner added, “our mission will expand around the world as we equip further those preparing to reach the lost with the only gospel that saves.”

The 36-hour graduate level program was not crafted just for future vocational missionaries, but is a great tool for the businessmen, nurses, doctors, teachers, etc. who feel called to live their vocation on the mission field, but lack biblical, theological, and missiological training. It does so by providing students the simple basics that will equip them for a lifetime of learning and ministry and, more pragmatically, for their time on the mission field.

“Once they are done with this program, their bag of tools will have the essentials to guide them in rightly dealing with the Word of God and developing a solid theological foundation, in addition to having the missiological fundamentals that will enable them to partake in God’s mission of making one people out of all peoples,” said Dr. Maël Disseau, Dean of The Balthasar Hubmaier School of Theology and Missions.

Courses for the MA in Global Studies concentration will be conveniently offered on campus and online with courses like: Missiological Foundations of the Old Testament and New Testament, Church Planting in Global Contexts, World Religions and Apologetics, Cultural Analysis & Ministry, among others.

Possible careers with the MA in Global Studies include, but not limited to, missionary church planter (inter-culturally & cross-culturally), non-profit ministry positions, minister of missions, global research associate, communications manager, and church staff.

“Our new MA in Global Studies opens even more doors for TMU to continually accomplish its mission of equipping students to fulfil the Great Commission,” said Dr. Brad Reynolds, Vice President for Academic Services.

“We are grateful to Dr. Van Sanders for his passion to lead students through this new degree in order to reach those who have never heard,” Reynolds added.

“God’s desire for all 11,730 people groups of the world,” said Dr. Van Sanders, Associate Professor of Missions & Evangelism and Interim Director of World Missions Center, “is to hear the gospel of Jesus Christ and follow Him as reproducing disciples in multiplying churches, compelling us at TMU to offer the MA in Global Studies to anyone who seeks to better understand the Bible and live missionally for the sake of God’s glory among all peoples!”

The MA in Global Studies rounds out the Masters options offered by Hubmaier School of Theology and Missions, which currently also include the MA in Theology (with four concentrations) and the Master of Divinity.

Current and prospective TMU students interested in pursuing the Master of Arts in Global Studies may contact Admissions at admissions@truett.edu or 706-865-2134, ext. 2131.
