WASHINGTON — On March 20 Dr. Michael Lewis, pastor of Roswell Street Baptist Church in Marietta, opened the U.S. House of Representatives in prayer.

Speaker of the House Paul Ryan introduced Lewis and following the prayer called upon Illinois Representative Brad Schneider to lead in the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag. After the Pledge of Allegiance, Speaker Ryan recognized Representative Loudermilk, who provided a brief biographical sketch of Lewis to be included in the Congressional Record.

Lewis was part of a group of 55 pastors, businessmen, and civic leaders from Bartow, Cobb, and Cherokee counties hosted by Rep. Loudermilk on their visit to Washington.

The Roswell Street pastor reported, “I was deeply honored to be invited to open the United States House in prayer at Congressman Loudermilk's gracious invitation. I was impressed as I stood at the rostrum to lead in a prayer of blessing for Congress that every session is opened in prayer in dependence on the Lord for wisdom and guidance since the beginning.

“Having visited with Congressman Loudermilk and meeting Speaker Ryan, my heart is filled with hope of the ongoing Providence of God’s hand in our nation’s leadership. I’m proud to have Congressman Loudermilk as our Representative in Georgia’s 11th district.”

“We had a great day at the U.S. Capitol with Congressman Loudermilk. We experienced a tour of the Capitol after hours with David Barton (evangelical political activist and founder of WallBuilders) and his son, Tim. It was an awesome experience.”
