RALEIGH, N.C. — Gathering Monday morning, Sept. 9, for the 18th Annual Southeastern Classic, 50 teams totaling 200 players teed off to celebrate a year of generous giving and support for Southeastern Seminary and its students.

In God’s providence, this year’s tournament was the largest ever held. Under a gentle September sun and cool breeze, Southeastern friends, donors, and partners gathered at North Ridge Country Club for a shotgun start into a morning of friendly competition.

Over the course of the event, a total of $133,000 was raised to aid Southeastern students in tuition costs and their pursuit of God’s calling in their lives. By God’s grace, with this year’s giving, the Southeastern Classic has raised $1.45 million during the past 18 years.

“Over the past eight years, this tournament has doubled in size and has allowed us to share the Southeastern story with even more people who are passionate about theological education done in service of the local church and the Great Commission,” shared Drew Davis, director of Southeastern’s office for financial and alumni development.

“This is a unique event where corporate partners, churches, and individuals get to celebrate what God is doing in and through the Southeastern community, and to do so at one of the largest charity golf tournaments in the state. Every dollar raised in this tournament goes to directly offset student tuition, which, to date, is the equivalent of providing full academic scholarships to 180 students for an entire year.”

After the contests and camaraderie of the morning, participants gathered for the post-tournament banquet, during which awards and winners were announced. For the first time in the history of the tournament, one celebrated attendee went home with a brand new car, sponsored by Charles Boyd Cadillac, after having hit a long-anticipated hole-in-one.

During the banquet Jonathan Six, vice president for institutional advancement, thanked participants for coming out and supporting Southeastern in its mission.

“When you support theological education,” Six said, “what you do is you are supporting students who are literally going to the ends of the earth. They are pastoring and planting churches around the world and taking the good news of Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection to the lost and dying. That’s what you’re investing in.”

Southeastern is deeply grateful for the faithful support of its generous donors and partners who share a united passion for the Great Commission, the equipping of God’s people, and the service of the local church. The Southeastern community of senders and supporters plays an integral role in our students’ journey from their ministry training to their mission field.
