BOGOTA, Colombia (AP) — Authorities say a fire at a prison in southwestern Colombia has killed at least 51 people and injured a dozen more. National prisons director Tito Castellanos tells Radio Caracol that it’s not clear if all of the dead were prisoners. He says the fire broke out during what appeared to be an attempted riot early Tuesday at the medium security prison in the city of Tulua.

SAN ANTONIO (AP) — Fifty people died after being abandoned in a tractor-trailer on a remote back road in the sweltering Texas heat. It's the latest tragedy to claim the lives of migrants smuggled across the border from Mexico. Nearly all of the victims in San Antonio were found Monday at the scene.

MENDON, Mo. (AP) — Three people were killed and dozens others were injured Monday when a passenger train traveling from Los Angeles to Chicago struck a dump truck and derailed in a remote, rural area of Missouri. Two of the people who died were on the train and one was in the truck, Missouri State Highway Patrol spokesman Cpl. Justin Dunn said.

Stocks ended mixed after a day of wavering between gains and losses Monday as the market cools off following a rare winning week. The S&P 500 edged 0.3% lower, the Dow Jones Industrial Average slipped 0.2% and the Nasdaq fell 0.8%.

CAPE TOWN, South Africa (AP) — South African authorities are seeking answers after 21 underage teenagers partying after the end of exams died in a mysterious weekend incident at a nightclub. The bodies of many of the victims were discovered by police lying on tables, slumped over chairs and couches, and sprawled on the dance floor of the club in the early hours of Sunday morning.

ATLANTA – The University System of Georgia generated an economic impact of $19.3 billion across the state during the last fiscal year, up $700 million – or 3.8% – over fiscal 2020. That economic impact translated into 152,629 full- and part-time jobs, about a third of which were on campus and two-thirds off campus.

SLOVIANSK, Ukraine (AP) — Ukrainian officials say scores of civilians are feared killed or injured after a Russian rocket strike hit a crowded shopping mall in the central city of Kremenchuk. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in a Telegram post Monday that the number of victims was “unimaginable,” citing reports that more than 1,000 civilians were inside at the time of the attack.

President Volodymr Zelenskyy said a 37-year-old man was killed and his daughter and wife injured when missiles hit an apartment building.
