MOUNT VERNON, Ga. — Brewton-Parker Christian University’s Student Enrichment Center hosted a career panel discussion on Nov. 13 for business majors, inviting key community members to share from their respective areas. The purpose of the event was to provide students with an opportunity to connect with and learn from professionals in various business fields, gaining practical advice and encouragement as they prepare to enter the workforce.
Panelists included Lisa Strickland, Vice President and Branch Manager at Ameris Bank (Vidalia); Tammy Crawford, Assistant Manager at Ameris Bank (Vidalia); Derrick Thompson, Market Sales Manager at Cintas Corporation (Vidalia); Marcy Lane, CEO of the Boys & Girls Club of Toombs County; Camilla Williams, Entrepreneur and Mary Kay Consultant (Vidalia); Yesi Diaz, Owner of La Cabaña Mexican Restaurant (Mount Vernon); and Ojani Contreras, Assistant Manager at La Cabaña Mexican Restaurant (Mount Vernon).
Panelists share with BPCU students advice and personal experiences that have led them to where they are in their professional careers.
Throughout the discussion, panelists shared from their professional journeys and offered advice on topics such as leadership, perseverance, goal-setting, and personal growth. They
emphasized the importance of developing a strong work ethic and maintaining integrity. Students were encouraged to set both personal and professional goals and to trust the process of growth. Several panelists spoke about learning from obstacles and setbacks, sharing stories of overcoming challenges such as business disruptions, natural disasters, and career transitions.
The panelists also offered practical insights for students entering the workforce, including tips on job interviews, time management, and maintaining professionalism. They highlighted the importance of interpersonal skills, social awareness, and respect for others.
Above all, the discussion centered on faith, perseverance, and purpose. Staying focused on the greater purpose and choosing to press forward when circumstances become challenging. Students left inspired to pursue excellence in their chosen fields while remaining grounded in their faith.
