MOUNT VERNON, Ga. — Brewton-Parker Christian University trustees recently joined representatives from the Georgia Department of Transportation District 2, State Representative Leesa Hagan (District 156), and school administrators to mark the installation of new interstate signs directing travelers to the university’s Mount Vernon campus.
The sign, installed at Exit 78 (eastbound and westbound) and Exit 58 (eastbound), updates the former “Brewton-Parker College” panels to reflect BPCU’s integration of "Christianity" in the institution's name and its transition to university status, effective July 1, 2025. Manufactured by Georgia Correctional Industries and coordinated by GDOT District 2 (Tennille), the updated panels will direct travelers along the Macon-to-Savannah corridor to the institution and accurately reflect the recent name change.
“We are thankful for our Board of Trustees, our local leaders, our state partners, and especially GDOT for their partnership in this project,” said Dr. Steven F. Echols, President of BPCU. “These signs are another marker in our historic transition of becoming a university. We have great expectations of what God will accomplish through the students and families who find their way to our campus using these signs.”
The new signs follow months of coordination to update the university’s name across campus, in the community, and on state highways. Measuring approximately 21.5 feet wide by 8 feet high, the panels replace the 16-by-7-foot signs installed around 2017. A GDOT crew delivered one of the panels to the campus so that trustees, who were present for their regularly scheduled board meeting, could briefly capture a photo to commemorate this important milestone in the university’s transition.
